MIGRATON

To
begin with, Paed Conca set to music silent films of the 20ies (The
Man with the Camera: Oziga Vertov 1929, Nosferatu: F.W. Muranu 1922,
The Mother: Vsevolod Pudovkin 1926) for the cinema of the bernese
Reitschule. Last year, he used some archive material of the building
of the Lorraine-bridge that was finished in 1927 as basic material
for a composition and this January he presented the composition
“Migraton” for which the film maker Giorgio Andreoli and Paed
Conca put the visual material together. The musical composition was
completed on the demand of the Department of Culture and written by
Paed Conca throughout last year. The visual material deals with the
subject of migration and presents a chronological collage made up by
a mixture of documentary film and science fiction movie sequences.
What needs special consideration is the fact that the visual material
was put toghether hand in hand with the progression of the musical
composition so that both parts has to be seen as one piece of a
considerable artistic work. The result is thus not a conventional
setting to music of a film – for “Migraton”, the music is as
important as the visuals.
Today
as in the past, politics contribute to putting the image of great
threat on foreing people, either work migrants or politically
motivated migrats. This thought is the basis for “Migraton”, a
peace of art that nevertheless is neither a means of propaganda, nore
a pathetic contribution to this social fact but a “musical film”
that moves, questions, churns and reconciles.
